Parsauni Khem Village Children Playing in the StrawParsauni Khem is the remote village in North-East Bihar State, India, where Prof Gajendra Verma, (Founder of The Kanka-Gajendra Foundation), was born. His family once owned a considerable acreage of farmland there.

It had long been Gajendra’s ambition to revisit the remote village of Parsauni Khem after an absence of some 30 years, to meet some of the villagers and to discuss with them the possibility of providing a community building or some other much-needed facility to benefit a population totalling about 5,000 people who live in Parsauni Khem and a number of other villages close-by.

KGF Trustees in discussion with representatives at Parsauni KhemThe KGF Chair, the KGF Founder and a number of India-based KGF Trustees visited Parsauni Khem on 28 and 29 November 2009 for fact-finding and discussions. After examining approximately an acre of land and a disused building belonging to the Verma family, the visiting group held discussions with representatives of the villagers and village chief.

A number of options were suggested. There is a perceived need for high quality training in the area. The most popular and worthwhile proposal is for the establishment of a Vocational and Technical Training Centre for the benefit of the populations of Parsauni Khem and other nearby villages, amounting to some 5000 people in total.

Part of the land and disused building at Parsauni Khem VillageThe plan provides for restoration of the roof and meeting rooms of the currently disused building and fitting it out with appropriate facilities as a centre for vocational and technical training programmes. The adjacent strip of land is ideal for training villagers in increasing their soil quality, land irrigation, seed germination, crop yield and for experiments in introducing new crops.

Disused building at Parsauni Khem Village awaiting restoration and conversion for use as a Vocational and Technical Training CentreGajendra Verma, his Brothers and family have agreed to donate in perpetuity, the building and land for use of the villagers. The Kanka-Gajendra Foundation is now seeking additional funding to cover the cost of building restoration, equipment, maintenance and provision of visiting trainers to make this worthwhile vocational and technical training centre a lasting reality.

If you would like to help The Kanka-Gajendra Foundation in completing this valuable targeted humanitarian aid programme to set up a Vocational and Technical Training Centre for the long-term benefit of the people of Parsauni Khem and surrounding villages, please use the link to donations online via JustGiving.

Thank you.
